Casa Santa Ana School

Casa Santa Ana is a four classroom addition to an existing K-8 parochial school in south Los Angeles. The program includes classrooms for children from pre-kindergarten through first grade.

The concept is derived from the school’s namesake: As the Mother of Mary, Saint Ann’s connection to Jesus inspired the nested nature of the courtyard, which in turn generated a series of diagrams connecting the plan of the building to the campus and to the surrounding city. The school building and the yard it encloses are designed to function independently from the rest of the campus. Each classroom has its own patio designed to extend the classroom space to the exterior.
