Diriyah Gate Housing

Diriyah Gate Urban Housing (Site 3) offers a residential experience deeply rooted in the surrounding landscape, positioned along the edge of the Wadi where nature and architecture converge. Drawing inspiration from the informal scale and stepped profiles of traditional Najdi settlements, the buildings appear to rise organically from the terrain—low-slung, textured, and closely attuned to the land.

The architecture mediates between the natural character of the Wadi and the more formal urban park nearby, using massing, courtyards, and strategic planting to soften the edge. Guided by Najdi principles, the design prioritizes passive cooling, shaded outdoor areas, and layered privacy. Breezeways, narrow alleys, and internal courtyards bring light and air into the residential blocks, fostering a calm and comfortable living environment.

Together, the architecture and landscape form a continuous, human-scaled fabric that frames views, strengthens connections to place, and reflects the climate and culture of Diriyah—creating a community that feels both contemporary and timeless.

This project is the result of a collaborative partnership between Brooks + Scarpa and WTARCH. The development is further supported by a multidisciplinary team of consultants, including Atelier Ten, IA Interior Architects, Thornton Tomasetti, Integral Group, Tina Chee Landscape Studio, and Omgivning.
