An interest in how people move during football game day parties emerged in this project. The clients wanted to span a deck out over a big retaining wall to connect the two wings of the existing house, allowing party guests to flow in loops between the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, the pool deck, the new wood deck — where distant views of the Rose Bowl can be had — and back to the kitchen. Striations of wood separate from the flat decking to negotiate the changes in height and to allow configurations which accommodate the body in various positions of repose.
