Hanalei Beach Hut
A speculative project for Hanalei Bay on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii, this project is our take on both the lifeguard tower and the surfboard shack. The beach hut’s unique bent form echoes the undulations of the ocean while simultaneously speaking to the island’s rich heritage of wood canoe construction. We chose to invert the structure of the bent surface to both subtly ornament and overtly express its tectonics. Above the shed there is a viewing deck for personal relaxation which is contrasted and complimented by a public picnic deck that extends from the base of the hut.
